It is with deep sorrow that the family of Irene Letta Anderson announces her passing on Thursday, May 30, 2013 after a lengthy illness.
Irene was born to the late Norman and Jean Young in Timmins, Ontario. An accomplished musician, Irene played flute, piano, and violin and was accepted into the music program at the University of Toronto. In 1962, Irene received a commission with the Royal Canadian Air Force. Stationed in Comox, BC, she reached the rank of First Officer. Upon marrying and starting her family, Irene left the service and moved to Richmond, BC, where she worked as an accountant. The final 13 years of her professional life were spent with Public Works Canada in their Charlottetown, PEI office. Retiring, Irene returned to Northern Ontario, choosing to live in Elliot Lake. A lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, she was active with chapters in both Richmond, BC and Elliot Lake, Ont. Additionally, she enjoyed gardening, curling, bowling, reading and was passionate about golf.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Norma-Jean Anderson of Elliot Lake; her son, William Charles Anderson (Alaina Perttula), of Toronto; and two grandchildren, B'Elanna Teagan and William Percy. Irene will also be dearly missed by her aunt, Thelma Faubert, of Sault Ste Marie, as well as numerous cousins.
Friends will be received at the Elliot Lake Funeral Chapel & Cremation Centre (36 Ontario Ave) on Saturday, June 8, 2013 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. The Rev. Robert Gardner officiating. Interment to take place at a later date in Timmins, Ontario.
