It is with heavy hearts that we the family announce the passing of Annie Catherine MacKenzie.
Born in Marble Mountain, Richmond County, the daughter of Dan and (Cotterall) Muriel Smith.
At an early age Mom learned the meaning of hard work and gave generously to her family and neighbours, expecting nothing in return. She made sure everyone had woolen socks and mittens. A visit to mom’s house was not complete without a cup of tea, homemade biscuits and a good game of cards or Scrabble. She was a “true Christian.”
Annie is survived by her sons, Carlie MacKenzie, Washabuck, who gave his all to her, Billy (Regina) MacKenzie, Antigonish, Gregory (Linda) MacKenzie, Whycocomagh, Mickey (Anita) MacKenzie, Sydney, Johnny (Jewel) MacKenzie, Baddeck, Gary (Marlene) MacKenzie, Washabuck; daughters, Betty (Roderick) MacNeil, Gills Point, Ann (Mickey Frank) MacNeil, Washabuck, Marybelle (Roy) Matheson, Little Narrows; daughter-in-law, Jeanette MacKenzie, Montreal; brother, Douglas (Marlene) Smith, Ontario; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Besides her parents, Annie was predeceased by her loving husband of 31 years, John James ‘Jimmy’ MacKenzie, sons, Leonard MacKenzie, Montreal, Barry MacKenzie in infancy, sister, Mabel MacKay; grandchildren, Steven and Kristen MacKenzie, great-grandchild, Kenzie Fraser, sons-in-law, Roderick MacNeil and Mickey Frank MacNeil.
Visitation for the late Annie MacKenzie will take place the Washabuck Community Center Tuesday, June 25 from 2-9 p.m. The funeral will take place at the Holy Rosary Church in Washabuck on Wednesday, June 26 at 2 p.m. with Fr. Paul Abbass and Rev. Andrew MacDonald officiating. Following will be her burial in the Holy Rosary Cemetery.
Mom will always be loved and remembered, until we meet again.
Many thanks to the staff of Victoria County home care, the Northside Guest Home and Victoria County Memorial Hospital for all their help. A special thanks to her two nieces Pat and Shirley of Washabuck who gave their time, support and love. To everyone who gave of themselves in a time of need, we thank you. It will always be remembered, God bless you all.
Funeral arrangements are under the care of MacAskill’s Funeral Home in Baddeck. Family flowers only please.
Donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society, Holy Rosary Cemetery or the Northside Guest Home.
