PATTERSON, ROLAND SYLVANUS - Peacefully at the Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen, NB on Tuesday July 2, 2013, Mr. Roland Sylvanus Patterson, beloved husband of Glenna O. (Acton) Patterson of Caithness NB. Born at Utopia, NB on April 27, 1922 he was a son of the late Peter and Ida (Mahar) Patterson. A loving husband, father, grandfather and brother, Roland is survived in addition to his loving wife Glenna of St. Andrews, by his daughters; Judy (David) Matheson of Caithness, NB, Susan Hoyes (Karl Wyllie) of Dartmouth, NS and Heather (Donald) Christianson of Penetanguishene, ON, four grandsons; Jeremy, Peter, Mark and Kyle, five great grandchildren; Dominic, Annie, Ava, Ethan and Ashton, one brother Alden Patterson of Sarnia, ON, one sister Ruth Townes of Blacks Harbour, NB and son in law Bradley Hoyes of Miramichi, NB as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Roland is also survived by his best friend and buddy of 67 years Henry Hatt. He was predeceased by two brothers: Granville and Fred and three sisters; Mildred Wilcox, Mae Parker and Rhodena Patterson. Prior to his retirement, Roland worked for JDI at the old pulp mill and power dam. He also served with the Canadian Army’s North Shore Regiment overseas during the second world war and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 40 in St. George and Orange Lodge # 17 in Rollingdam. Roland was also an active member of the St. George Baptist Church where he was an usher for many years and held other positions. He will be remembered by his family as the best husband, dad, grand dad and great grand dad anyone could be blessed with and remembered by all who knew him for his gentle nature and friendly way. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street St. George, NB where visiting will held on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The service will be held on Friday at 4pm from the St. George Baptist Church with Rev. Jason Hooper officiating followed by interment at the St. George Rural Cemetery. The Royal Canadian Legion branch # 39 and # 40 will hold a tribute service on Thursday at 7pm at the funeral home.
