With heavy hearts and after a courageous battle with brain cancer, we regret to announce the passing of John on June 25, 2013, at University Hospital, London, Ont. in his 90th year.
Beloved husband of Margaret and loving father of Launda (Greg) Campbell, Hensall, Ont.; stepfather of Bonnie (Peter) West, Sarnia and Dermot (Hunyoung), South Korea. Cherished Poppy of Jason, Jonathan (Amanda), Julie (Tony), Luke, Keira. Great Poppy to Katie, Gracie and Lauren. Survived by siblings, Sinclair (Ruby), Roy (Carrie), Gordon (Ruby), Billy (Valerie), Lloyd, Isabel, Myrtle, Mary (Lewis) and several cousins.
Predeceased by siblings, Melvin, Dennis, Marie and twin brothers, Roderick and Collie and brother-in-law, James (McEvoy). Also predeceased by John's first wife, Eva (Hatcher) and son, Johnny.
John proudly served with the Cape Breton Highlanders-Royal Canadian Engineers for 37 years during which he served in the Second World War and Korea. He also worked for the Department of Defence as a military building inspector before retiring.
A celebration of John's life will be held at the Aspy Bay United Church on Thursday, August 8th at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served at the United Hall. Interment at MacPherson's Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Brain Cancer Society of Canada or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
