It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Keith Milton McKeown on July 18, 2013 in Vernon, BC. He is survived by Jean, his loving wife of almost 60 years; daughters Joanne Williams (Nick Vander Meulen) of Prince George, BC, Sandi (George) Walker of Quesnel, BC, Donna (Brian) Dent of Saskatoon; 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents George & Elizabeth McKeown, sisters Ena (Fred) Stevenson & Audrey (Norm) Smith and brothers Kenneth (Norma) & Raymond (Florence). Keith was born June 18, 1931 in Caron and grew up on the family farm at Archydal and attended Summerside School. In 1947, he moved to Moose Jaw with his parents and attended Technical High School followed by Voc Ag at the U of S. Keith met the love of his life, Beverley Jean McDonald and they married in 1953. They farmed at Archydal for 44 years where they raised their three daughters. Keith was very community minded and was active on the Summerside School Board, Archydal Curling Club, Summerside Telephone Co., Caron Masonic Lodge and Hillcrest Sports Centre. He was a councillor for the RM of Caron for many years. In 1984, Keith & Jean started spending their winters in Vernon, BC, retiring there in 1996. They traveled, camped, fished and enjoyed both square and round dancing. Keith loved to ski and fly remote control planes. A Celebration of Keith’s Life will be held Monday, July 29th at the Schubert Centre in Vernon, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation (#4, 1551 Sutherland Ave., Kelowna, BC V1Y 9M9) would be appreciated.
