REEVE- Freda Elizabeth Reeve (nee Macpherson). December 23, 1939 – July 4, 2013. Freda passed away peacefully at home after a brief battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Glenn, her children James (Trish), Shauna Tilbury (Ted), and Lachlan (Kim), her sister, Frances Bain and her five grandchildren, Ryan, Jordin, McGinnis, Curran and Natalie. She is also survived by sister-in-law Kathy Reeve, sister-in-law Betty Clark, brother-in-law Brian Clark and various nieces and nephews. Freda was predeceased by her parents Duncan and Christina MacPherson, three brothers Neil, Keith and Danny, sister-in-law Marion and brother-in-law Murdoch Bain. Freda was born in Swift Current to native Nova Scotians, and had a lifetime tie with “down home”. She grew up in “Swift” and then entered the U of S in 1958 to begin her studies in the College of Education. Little did she know that her future husband was lurking in the halls of learning. An after graduation highlight was a trip to Europe. After marriage, Glenn and Freda resided in Melville where James was born. 1966 saw the Reeves return to Saskatoon where they have made their home and raised their family. Freda wove the fabric of our family in many ways. We remember coming home from school to the smell of fresh buns; getting in trouble for getting stuck in the mud of the unplanted spring garden; going “up the golden stairs” and being tucked in; her excitement at watching us open a Christmas gift she’d hidden for months. She read to us and entertained us with stories of her own childhood. She spent many hours packing and unpacking coolers for softball tournaments, family picnics and road trips. Throughout the years, she supported us in our many endeavors such as sport, homework, and the challenges of teenagerhood. Often, philosophical and informative conversations took place with Mom late at night at the kitchen table. She encouraged all of us to try new things, take responsibility for our actions, and learn from our mistakes. Freda’s many talents included cooking, gardening, and being a pillar of support for others. She was a creative and energetic French teacher who reveled in the thought that she had left French jingles playing in the heads of former students. In recent years, she enjoyed being closely connected to McClure United Church, traveling with Glenn, and swimming and socializing with the Red Hat Ladies. She took great pleasure in spending time with each of her grandchildren. The Reeve family would like to thank all of those who provided support during Freda’s illness. Of particular note were the efforts of the Home Care Palliative Unit who provided reassurance and aid during difficult times. A celebration of Freda’s life will take place at McClure United Church on August 7 at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the McClure Place Foundation (1825 McKercher Drive, Saskatoon, SK, S7H 6N5) or the Canadian Cancer Society.
