Passed away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on the 27th of July, Mr. Claude Hughes of Green Island Brook, NL, in his 63rd year. Left to mourn his passing are his wife Vera Hughes; his sons Shane, Andy (Dara), and Ryan; his grandchildren Adam and Hartley, as well as his brothers William, Roland, Nathaniel (Patricia), Israel (Francis), Whyman and Winston (Mona); sisters Amy (Stanley), Elva, Beulah (David), Sheila (Frank), and sister in-law Phoebe. Despite his young age, Claude lived through the passing of his parents John and Bridget, his brother Baxter, sisters Stella and Maria as well as his in-laws Orval, Margaret and Rosie. Visitation was held at the St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Lower Cove, from where the funeral service took place at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30 with Rev. Marlene Harvey and Layperson Maxine Hughes officiating. Burial followed the service in the Green Island Brook Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.
