Lorne Briggs
BRIGGS, LORNE - The family of Lorne Colwell Briggs of Minto is saddened to announce his passing which occurred on August 1, 2013, at the Shannex Thomas Hall, Fredericton, NB. Born in Ripples, NB, he was the son of the late Hazen and Lena (Colwell) Briggs. He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley (McElman) Briggs; sons, Francis (Terry) of Lethbridge, AB, Aubrey (Carol) of Spruce View, AB, Danny (Carol) of Vancouver, BC and Alden (Dawna) of New Maryland, NB; daughters, Lorna Sheryl Chase (Lloyd) of Edmonton, AB and Darlene Purdy of Kelowna, BC; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Lorne was predeceased by sisters, Jenny, Pearl and Faye; brothers, Harold, Herbert and Charles; and grandsons, Troy and Jonathan Briggs. Lorne was a family man and his family always came first. He was a wonderful husband to Shirley for 66 years and an absolute great Dad to his six children. His good-looking, contagious smile will always be etched in our hearts. Lorne was a WWII veteran; he served his country for 4 years overseas in Europe. He did not talk about the war much but he was a proud soldier that believed in standing up for what was right. For the last half-century, Lorne resided in Newcastle Creek by the NB Power Grand Lake generating plant. Early in his career he worked for the Avon Coal Company. The latter part of his career he worked in several locations as a millwright, which he worked as until he retired in 1990. Lorne was an avid golfer. His talents led to several golf accomplishments that were recognized as he was inducted into the Minto Sports Wall of Fame in May 2013.
Resting at Hogg Funeral Services, 10 King Street, Minto, with visitation on Sunday, August 4, from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 pm. Funeral service will take place on Monday, August 5 at 11:00 am at the Hogg Minto Community Chapel. A reception at the Seniors Community Centre in Minto will immediately follow the service.
