Margaret (Peggy) Learning

Date de décès : 13 août 2013

Margaret Christine (Peggy) Learning passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at the age of 62. She was predeceased by her father Edwin (E.J.) and mother Maud.
Peggy was born in St. John's, Newfoundland, and educated at Edgehill Preparatory School in Windsor, Nova Scotia, and Holy Heart of Mary High School and Bishop Spencer College in St. John's.
Peggy's life was governed by a love of adventure that was reflected in her work life. She was one of the first women to break the gender barrier in the Canadian Merchant Marine, where she spent several years travelling the world as a Supply Officer. She loved Canada's north, and later in her career worked in the hospitality industry in communities such as Gander, Newfoundland; Inuvik, NWT; Iqaluit, Nunavut; and La Ronge, Saskatchewan. In between adventures, Peg spent time with her brother Walter in Charlottetown, PEI, and later Fredericton, New Brunswick. It was to Fredericton that she retired when illness cut short her career. Peg made friends wherever she went, and her laugh and sense of good cheer in the face of adversity will be greatly missed by many people.
Peggy is survived by her brother Walter (Ruth) of Fredericton, nephew Warwick of Toronto, and many friends and family members across the country. Celebrations of her life will be held this September in Fredericton and St. John's, NF with interment in Forest Road Anglican Cemetery in St. John's.
