BABINEAU, JOSEPH "LEO" - Peacefully at the Ridgewood Veteran's Wing, Saint John NB on September 1, 2013, Mr. Joseph "Leo" Babineau formerly of Blacks Harbour, NB. Born at Newcastle, NB on October 29, 1931, he was a son of the late Herb English and Josephine (Babineau) Breau. A loving brother, uncle and friend, Leo is survived by four sisters; Evelyn (Roger) Charest of Gardner, MA, Eileen Bryan of Pocologan, NB, Linda (Doug) Powell of Riverview, NB and Wanda Deveau of Beaver Harbour NB, two brothers, Raymond (Annette) Breau of Beaver Harbour, NB and Ronald (Carolyn) Breau of Blacks Harbour, NB, one half sister, Helena Beggs of Ontario and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents, Leo was predeceased by one sister, Elizabeth Godin and by one half brother, Jimmy English. Leo was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces and was a veteran of the Korean War. He saw action in many places and received numerous medals for his service to his country. He was a quiet, shy, yet kind and loving man who enjoyed sharing war stories with those he met. Leo was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 39, Blacks Harbour, NB. The family would like to thank the staff of the Ridgewood Veteran's Wing for the exceptional care they have provided to Leo during his stay. Your love and compassion will never be forgotten.
Resting at the St. George Funeral Home & Crematorium (755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George, NB with visiting on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from the Stella Maris Roman Catholic Church, Blacks Harbour, NB on Thursday at 11:00 am with Father Rolando Suplido officating followed by the interment at the parish cemetery. A Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday at 6:45 pm. In Leo's memory, donations to a charity of the donor's choice would be appreciated by the family.
