LÉGÈRE, GILBERT - The death of Gilbert John Légère, age 97, occurred on Saturday, September 14th, 2013 at the Oromocto Public Hospital after a short illness. One of a large family raised in Saint Paul, NB, Gilbert is survived by only one sister, Mary Silliphant of Saint John, she will be 94 on September 20th, 2013; his four children: Georgina (Fred) Wallace; Ronald (Rhoda) Légère, Vincent Légère, and Dennis Légère as well as seven grandchildren, great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Gilbert was predeceased by his wife, Hazel (Robinson) Légère in 1987 and his parents, Ferdinand (Suzanne) Léger; siblings, John Léger, David Léger, Archie Léger, Désiré (Dick) Léger, Emma Pauley, and Helen Bernier. Gilbert moved to Chipman from Saint Paul, Kent County in 1939 to work in the King Mines at Coal Creek during the war years. After that he was employed in construction jobs in Fredericton, Mactaquac, and in the Grand Lake area. Following his retirement at age 65, he continued to work in his own woodlots and provided wood for local buyers.
At his request, Gilbert was cremated. There will be no wake and no funeral. Instead, a memorial service celebrating Gilbert's life will be held for his family and friends at Christian Life Center, 740 Main Street, Chipman, NB. on Sunday, September 22 at 2:30 pm with Pastor Patrick Halferty of CLC and Father Paul Bebodu of Saint Joseph's Roman Catholic Church both involved in the service.
