SMISSAERT, MARY - 1932-2013 - Announcing sadly, the untimely death of "Queen" Mary Smissaert (Humble) of Dalhousie (formerly of Stanley), at the age of 81, after a one year long battle with cancer. At the time of her passing, she was being cared for by the compassionate nurses at the Palliative Care Ward of the Dalhousie Community Health Center.
Mary went on ahead, and leaves behind her grieving husband, Barry, and her three children: Chris (Susan) of Fredericton, Randy of Carlton Place, Ont, and Diane, recently of Point la Nim. She also had 6 grandchildren -.Elizabeth, Michael, and Julie; Penny, Hayley, and Trevor.
Mary also leaves behind a countless amount of friends from the many overlapping circles that she ran around in! There were the Saturday morning yard sale friends, and there were the Red Hatters. While she worked as a teacher at the L.E.Reinsborough Middle School, there were the three generations of parents of all the former classroom students; many of whom thought that Mrs. Mary was " their most favourite teacher ever!". And that is not yet mentioning all of the professional colleagues and co-workers, too. She was always like a rock star to her friends, attracting their attention everywhere that she went! She spent countless hours in the most recent years as an enthusiastic volunteer for the SPCA, regularly sorting books at the second hand bookstore, and for a few years collecting and returning borrowed tables while organizing their annual yard sales, and generally, in her good natured way, directing the show, sending other volunteers here and there.
Mary's wishes were that there will be no memorial services, just memories of who she was; and that her ashes will eventually be added with Barry's and scattered in her garden by her family.
