COMEAU, Victor B. – Dayton, Yarmouth Co., formerly of St. Alphonse, died in Yarmouth Regional Hospital, at the age of 72, the son of the late Ulysse and Emma (Burridge) Comeau. Victor is survived by his wife of 20 years, Catherine (DeViller) Comeau, as well as by daughter, Darlene (Phil) Mooney, Yarmouth; a brother, Cecil (Florence) Comeau, St. Alphonse and nephews, Shawn (Heather) Comeau, Digby, and Trevor (Amy Jo) Comeau, Enfield, NS. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Helene Jacquard, Dayton (formerly of Comeau’s Hill). Victor was predeceased by his first wife, Emma (Deveau) Comeau; a sister-in-law, Annette Comeau; mother-in-law, Pauline Deveau; father-in-law, Emile Deveau. He was also predeceased by his mother-in-law, Isabelle DeViller and father-in-law, Francis DeViller, as well as by a sister-in-law, Janet DeViller, Montreal, Quebec. Victor is also survived by brothers-in-law, Paul Deveau, Cornwall, ON; Louis Deveau, St. Alphonse; Pius Deveau, Sluice Point; Austin Deveau, St. Croix; Gerard Deveau, Alberta; Jacques Deveau, St. Alphonse; Lionel Deveau, Truro; sisters-in-law, Marriette Deveau, Alberta and Therese Grillo, Maple, Ontario. Victor was employed by Irving Oil Limited as a stock clerk, bookkeeper, sales staff and area supervisor. He was proud to have been on the Irving team for 35 years, having retired in 1998. He joined the Knights of Columbus, Council 2181, Yarmouth, and was voted Knight of the Year and Grand Knight for that council. He joined the Msgr. W. E. Young Fourth Degree Assembly No. 1428, and subsequently became Faithful Pilot. As Grand Knight, Victor, along with other Knights, started the Knights of Columbus choir, singing hymns in churches to this day. He served a term on the board of directors for Villa St-Joseph-du-Lac. He enjoyed bowling and was happy to serve as president of the Yarmouth Seniors Bowling Club. He also enjoyed his weekly games of dominoes with his friends, and at noon you could always find him at his favorite eatery, Wendy’s/Tim’s, socializing with everyone. Victor was always close to his church, wanting to help when he could. He served on parish councils for St. Alphonse, as well as the former Notre Dame Church in Yarmouth. Most recently he served on parish council of St. Ambrose Church, also serving on the administrative committee for Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Visitation took place from 2-4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday, with prayers at 8 p.m., both at H. M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, 29 Albert Street, Yarmouth. The funeral mass was held at 11 a.m., Friday, November 15 at Saint Ambrose Cathedral, Yarmouth, Father Gerald David officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery Fund or to a charity of choice.
