Passed away Wednesday, November 13th, 2013. Was born in Windsor, NS.
He was the son of Robert and Bertie (Croft) Seary; step-son of Mary (Winning) Seary. Ellis was known as Jim during the War years, and in later life, this was what he preferred to be called. At 21 he enlisted in the RCAF, where he trained as a pilot and served in 437 Squadron, Ferry Command. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his part in the operation in support of the Rhine crossing. From his DFC citation: "His coolness and courage on this occasion was typical of that which he has shown throughout his tour of duty." After the War he studied Engineering at Acadia University and The Nova Scotia Technical College, worked most of his professional career at Foulis Engineering and then the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. He was an avid golfer and long time member of Ashburn Golf Club. He enjoyed skating well into his 80's, and was a great outdoorsman, spending many happy hours at 'Fernando's Hideaway' his camp on the Chester Road. He was a member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia, the Royal Canadian Legion, Hants County Branch No.9, the Welsford Lodge No. 26 A.F. & A.M. and the Hiram Chapter RAM No. 3., and Session member and Elder of the Presbyterian Church of St. David. He was predeceased by his wife of over 50 years, Ruth (Creed). He is survived by his son Jim (Cindy Scott), Kingston, ON, daughter MJ (Terry Laing), Tantallon, and grandchildren Andrew (Oshawa, ON), Ruth (Calgary, AB), Luke and Raymond, at home. Visitation was held at Cruikshank's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor Street on Friday, November 22 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Memorial service took place from Presbyterian Church of St. David, 1544 Grafton Street on Saturday, November 23 at 11 am followed by a reception. Private family burial followed.
