It is with sadness that we announce the death of Clifford Douglas Mader on December 5, 2013.
Born in Sydney Nova Scotia, he spent most of his life there and moved to Edmonton in 2003 to be closer to family. He coached a number of young people in hockey, baseball and track, winning many local and provincial titles. Cliff loved horses and for a time owned some quarter horses that he raced in Nova Scotia and PEI. He was involved in the forming of CUPE in 1963 and became the first president of the eastern region. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War and was very proud of the service he performed for his country.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Emily, as well as his children, Chris (Syd) Wentzell, Nadine Sturko, Richard Mader, Dorothy (Colin) Isted, Gail (David) Butler, Gary (Toni) Mader and Nancy (Roger) Belanger. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Clifford in 2010.
Funeral Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints, 10980-142 Street, Edmonton, on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at 11:30 am.
