Mary Klippenstein, age 98, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 27, 2013, at the Herbert & District Integrated Health Facility in Herbert, SK. Mary was born to Johann and Katherina (nee Neufeld) Schroeder on March 15, 1915, at her parent’s farm near Main Centre, SK. Mary attended the Main Centre School for eight years. She quit school at the age of fifteen to help at home, then went back to school several years later to complete her grade nine. Mary became a Christian when she was fourteen years old. She was baptized and joined the Main Centre MB church in 1934, where she remained a faithful member for the rest of her life. In 1934 – 1935, Mary attended Bible School in Herbert, SK. On June 23, 1940, Mary married John Klippenstein with whom she enjoyed a happy union for almost 61 years. In 1950, Mary and John purchased a farm one and half miles east of Main Centre where they farmed for over 30 years. In 1981, they semi-retired to a small farm near Herbert, SK where they farmed, traveled, enjoyed reading, and attending the various school and extra- curricular activities of their children and grandchildren. In 1998, they retired to a comfortable home in Herbert, where they enjoyed gardening and entertaining their family. After the death of her husband in 2001, Mary continued to live in their retirement home till 2005, when she moved to the Herbert Heritage Manor in Herbert. She adjusted quickly and spent three happy years there. In 2008, it became necessary for her to move to a full care facility in Cabri, and then to the Herbert & District Integrated Health Facility in Herbert. Mary was predeceased by her husband John; her daughter, Diana; her parents; four brothers; and five sisters. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughters, Verna (Rudy) Reimer of Chilliwack BC, Velma (Melvin) Wiens of Beechy SK, Carol (Dan) Siebert of Main Centre SK, Elaine (Ken) Isaak of Niverville MB; and one son-in-law, Walter Martens of Herbert SK; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Cam(Eva) Reimer Tana & Ben of Chilliwack BC, Jane (Alan) Sandve, Sadie and Keefer of Chilliwack BC, Tamara (Bill) Wanner, Cody and Serenity of Beechy SK, Kelly (Lani) Wiens, Josiah, Chris, Abby, Sam, Sasha, and Elizabeth of Beechy SK, Sonya (Rod) Braun, Jacob, Rachel, and Joshua, of Winnipeg MB, Michael Siebert of Toronto ON, Keri Siebert of Saskatoon SK, Rhonda Martens of Herbert SK, Bruce (Stephanie) Martens, Lucas and Sophia of Barrie, ON, Dale (Kim) Martens, Reece, Chloe, and Jack of Hepburn SK, Rachel (Jay) Bunn, Owen, Seth, Liam, and Ellie of Niverville MB, Matthew (Christine) Isaak of Niverville MB and Nathan (Crystal) Isaak of Niverville MB; one sister, Alma Wiebe of Winnipeg, MB; and many relatives and friends. The Funeral Service was held on Monday, December 2, 2013, at 2:00 pm from the MB Church, Herbert, SK. The chosen music for the prelude was the West Coast Mennonite Chamber Choir. The musicians for the service were pianist, Dolly George and organist, Verna Martens playing, “Blessed Assurance“ for the processional. Scriptures were read by sons-in-law, Ken Isaak, Walter Martens, Rusty Reimer and by Dan Siebert. “The Wonder of It All”, “The Solid Rock” and “In the Rifted Rock” were sung by the congregation. The life history of Mary was shared by son-in-law, Melvin Wiens with a photo tribute brought by grandson, Dale Martens along with recorded piano music by daughter, Diana Martens (predeceased). Tributes were shared by daughters, Elaine Isaak, Carol Siebert, Vel Wiens and Verna Reimer with granddaughter, Rachel Bunn reading a tribute on behalf of the grandchildren followed by a song, “In Christ Alone” sung by the grandchildren. Special music was brought by Mary Epp, Dolly George and Dan Siebert singing, “10,000 Reasons”. The ushers in the church were Gary & Sonja Martens and Darrel & Sherry Unger. The Interment Service preceded the Service and was held at the MB Church Cemetery, Main Centre, SK with the following grandchildren serving as pallbearers, Kelly Wiens, Keri Siebert, Bruce Martens, Sonya Braun, Dale Martens, Jane Sandve, Nathan Isaak and Tamara Wanner. Honorary Pallbearers were Rhonda Martens, Michael Siebert, Cameron & Eva Reimer, Rachel & Jay Bunn, Matthew & Christine Isaak, Al Sandve, Bill Wanner, Lani Wiens, Stephanie Martens, Kim Martens and Crystal Isaak. In memory of Mary Klippenstein, donations made to Bethany College, Box 160, Hepburn, SK, S0K 1Z0 would be appreciated by the family.
