It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Calvin Roland Smith, age 81 years, of Topsail, Conception Bay South, NL, following a brief illness at the Health Sciences Complex, St. John's. Predeceased by parents Thomas and Dinah of Chance Cove, Trinity Bay, and step-father Roland Courage; Brothers Soloman (Mary), Norman (Elizabeth), Ronald (Annie), and Baby Sister Phyllis. Leaving to mourn beloved wife, Clementina Jane (Gill); sons Richard (Lisa), Brian (Jan), James (Sharon), Thomas (Sarah); daughter MaryJane (Craig) and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; sister Shirley Prince (Hubert), step-brother Roland Junior Courage (late Dottie), and a very large circle of friends here and abroad. Cal was known well throughout his community of Conception Bay South through his business career. He is a charter member of the Conception Bay South Lions Club, awarded Life Membership by the International Association of Lions Clubs, Master Mason of the Lodge Conception, Member of the Scottish Rite 32 degree, Member of the Mystic Shrine Mazol Temple of St. John's, and recent recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Ave., Mt. Pearl, on Saturday from 7p.m. - 9p.m. and on Sunday from 2p.m. - 4p.m. and 7p.m. - 9p.m. Funeral service from St. John The Evangelist Anglican Church, Topsail, on Monday, December 23rd, 2013 at 2PM. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery, Topsail.
