Alexander Mowchenko

Date de décès : 27 décembre 2013

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of ALEXANDER MOWCHENKO, age 91 on Friday, December 27, 2013 at the Ross-Payant Centennial Home in Assiniboia, SK. Alex was born October 9, 1922 at Saskatoon, SK, the oldest child to John and Luba (Shakotko) Mowchenko. He was raised on a farm near Ardill, and attended Sully School and Mossbank School. He went on to obtain a Bachelor degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Saskatchewan in 1945. Alex married Edna Haraldson on November 22, 1952 in Port Arthur, ON, and they raised four children on their farm near Ardill. In 1966, they also built a house in Moose Jaw, splitting their time between the farm and their new home. Alex and Edna were married for 56 years, until her passing in 2009. Alex lived independently and was physically active until recently. Alex's greatest love was his farm, however family always came first. He was an expert farmer, growing mostly cereal grains and raising cattle and chickens. He was also a good mechanic, making all his own farm machinery repairs, and he was a proficient welder. Alex was interested in geology, and he appreciated science and engineering in general, an interest he passed on to his children. Alex believed in the value of a good education and encouraged his family to do so. For recreation, Alex enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and loved spending time with them. In later years, while supporting Edna's many hobbies, they travelled more, including visits to Expo-86 in Vancouver, the Rocky Mountain parks, the San Francisco area and the Grand Canyon. Alex is survived by his children: Jack, Blair (Laura), Mark (Judy) and Carolyn Stang (Frank); grandchildren: Monty (Patty), Micky, Sarina (Shawn), Brendan, Janine and Daniel; great-grandchildren, Claire and Alice; siblings Mike, Christine, Irene and Gloria. He was predeceased by his parents John and Luba Mowchenko; his wife Edna; his siblings Marguerite, George and Leonard; and Jack's partner Patricia Cousins. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at 10:30 am. Reverend Doug Shepherd will officiate. Private family memorialization will take place at Rosedale Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Moose Jaw Chapter of the Canadian Cancer Society, 61 Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2. In living memory of Alex, a memorial planting will be made by W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Please sign the memorial register at website: www.wjjonesandson.com (Obituaries).
