Albert Gordon Carl Collinson, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2014 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. Gordon was born on July 30, 1920, on the Joe Collinson homestead, southwest of the Village of Abbey, to Joseph & Theresa Collinson. He attended the Leggott, Roe and Abbey Schools finishing his Grade Twelve, and then went to Normal School at Moose Jaw and also to the University of Saskatchewan at Saskatoon. He taught School at Hazlet, Battrum, Cabri, Roe School, Abbey and finally the Hutterian Brethren School at Abbey, for a grand total of thirty-five years. Gordon spent his retirement years in the Village of Abbey, looking after his beloved cats, house, yard and collectables from auction sales. He also enjoyed his hobbies, some of which included making rugs, crocheting, making bedspreads and tablecloths, decorating cakes, as well as doing paintings. He took several good trips, namely Europe, Hawaii, southern States and across Canada several times. In his life he tried to be considerate to all people, especially the elderly.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Frank, Gibson, William and James; his sisters, Martha Collinson and Florence Harrison.
The Funeral Service was held on Monday, January 6, 2014 at 2:00 pm from the Abbey Business & Community Centre, Abbey, SK with Pastor Alex Allan officiating. The pianist for the service was Sandra Watson with special music brought by Les Shimp and Amanda Falk singing, “He Touched Me” and “Love Lifted Me”. Scripture was read from John 14:1-6 and from Psalm 23. “Softly and Tenderly”, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Just As I Am” were sung by the congregation. The Interment Service was held at the Abbey Community Cemetery, Abbey, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Hardie Entz, Fred Entz, Gordon Entz, Fred Jr. Entz, Les Shimp and Allan Colpitts. In memory of Gordon Collinson, donations made to the Prairie Health Care Centre Auxiliary, Cabri, SK would be appreciated by the family.
