Peter R. Hildebrandt, age 84, of Wymark SK, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on January 7, 2014. Peter was born on January 16, 1929, on the family farm near Wymark. He attended Montford School. Peter married Tiena (Wieler) Peters on October 13, 1957. They shared their lives for 56 years, enjoying establishing a family farm. Peter accepted Jesus as his Saviour during the revival of 1959. He loved farming and passed that love on to his family. He was a true “do-it- your-selfer”. There was seldom a task that he wouldn’t attempt. “Good enough” was not part of his vocabulary! Doing something, was worth doing it well. He was a man of his word, and a simple handshake was enough. He faced challenges along the way, including the tragic death of a son, but his faith always saw him through. He was a quiet, yet caring man, whose patience was remarkable. He deeply loved and appreciated his family. There were also many enjoyable times, which included numerous vacations with family and friends, making countless wonderful memories. Some of his traveling highlights included family gatherings, camping, a US bus tour with friends, cruises, and spending many winters in California with his daughters. The last few years were difficult for Peter with his constant struggle for breath. His desire to be part of the farm activities, and his daily routine of Christian programs gave him the strength to carry on. Peter is survived by his wife, Tiena; son, Marv (Talita); daughters, Myrnalyn (Doug) Murray and Deborah (Don) Brown; grandchildren, Brittany (Brooks) Thoring, Lindsay (Brady) Funk, and Jordan Hildebrand; sisters, Eva Hildebrandt, Helen Wieler and Justina (George) Antal; brothers, Jake (Betty), John (Joyce) and Isaac; brother-in-law, Fred Bennett; sister-in-law, Mary (Hildebrandt) Martens; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Vernon; his parents, Peter and Elizabeth; sisters, Mary and Elizabeth; and by a brother, Henry.
The Celebration of Life Service was held on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at 2:00 pm from the Trailview Alliance Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Mike Smart officiating. The pianist for the service was Liz Ramage. “My Saviour’s Love” was sung by the congregation under the direction of Ben & Helena Funk and Bevin & Carrie Funk. Scripture was read by Kevin Peters and Talita Hildebrand read the obituary. Tributes to Grandpa were shared by Brittany, Lindsay and Jordan with Tributes to Dad shared by Marv, Myrnalyn and Deborah. Special music was brought by Bevin & Carrie Funk singing, “Knowing What I Know About Heaven” and by Marv, Talita & Family singing, “O, What a Glad Day”. The ushers in the church were James Bennett, Myron Hildebrandt, Gordon Martens and Ron Wieler. The Private Family Interment Service preceded the Funeral Service and was held at the Wymark EMC Cemetery, Chotitz, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Marv Hildebrand, Jordan Hildebrand, Brooks Thoring, Brady Funk, Don Brown and Doug Murray.
