HANS CLIFFORD KORVEN
September 15, 1923 – January 18, 2014
Hans was born in Hadeland, Norway. His parents, Carl and Marte Kjorven were naturalized Canadians so soon returned to their family farm in Cabri, SK. Hans received his schooling in Cabri and then attended the University of Saskatchewan. He received his Bachelor of Science in Engineering with a focus on Agricultural Engineering (irrigation systems/designs). A Master’s Degree was then attained from the University of Logan, Utah. Hans worked for 40 years as a Research Scientist with the Federal Government, Department of Agriculture. The majority of his career years were at the Swift Current Research Farm except for a few years at the Summerland Research Station B.C. Hans also considered himself fortunate to travel to China and India as extensions of his work. Towards the end of his career he worked in Saskatoon at Western Regional Headquarters. His work was his passion as was involvement in Civic Affairs, Barbershoppers, Rotary Service Club, music (playing his euphonium), donning his Captain’s hat and entertaining family/friends aboard his boat while at the cabin on Diefenbaker Lake, love of people and keen, sincere interest in everyone he met and of course - curling. Skipping his team to membership in the “8-ender Club” was a special moment and memory for him. The onset of Alzheimer’s Disease slowly curtailed many of his social and curling activities. We could still take him for boat rides, though! He leaves his wife, Jean of 65 years; his daughter Janet (Doug) Stott and son Kristen (Jill) Korven; one sister Clara (Bill) Lopeter and brother Otto (Flo) Kjorven. Predeceased by sister Hazel (Les) Thompson, brother Dr. Lloyd (Mary) Kjorven and a brother and sister in infancy. Five grandchildren – Cearra, Mason and Tarquin Stott, Drew and Erika Korven – were fortunate to spend special moments and laughs with Grandpa Hans at Christmas. A family remembrance will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Martens Warman Funeral Home. (306) 934-4888
