Francis, David Bryan, 57, of Paqtnkek Mi'kmaw Nation and Howie Centre died Jan. 24, 2014, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Antigonish, he was a son of the late Peter Sylliboy and Annie Mary Pictou.
David was in his second term as councillor for the Paqtnkek Mi'kmaw Nation. In his early years, he was a self-employed drywaller.
Dave was a people person who made friends easily. He will be remembered for his sense of humour and quick comebacks. David’s humour wasn’t all that made people smile. His generosity and kindness made a lasting impression. He was an avid Boston Bruins and Kasey Kahne fan. David, himself, raced 4-cylinder stock cars for a short time with the help of Ferg MacKinnon and his nephews.
He is survived by his 'Odie', Sarah 'Sally' Johnson, children, Lisa Paul, Millbrook, and Tanya Francis, Terena Francis, and Tma Francis, all of Paqtnkek; special grandson, Chad; grandchildren, Eric, Daisy, Sydney, Caitlin (also a goddaughter), Brendan, Aaron, Logan, Dexter, Andre, Sierra, Antle, and Keon; great-grandchildren, Casey and Jace; siblings, Mary Rose Watts (Eric), Truro, Phyllis Prosper (John), Waycobah, Robert Pictou, Christopher Pictou (Denise) and Marie Pictou (Dave), all of Paqtnkek; godchildren, Patrick Johnson, C.J. Pictou, and Niko Clair; his right-hand man, Martin Julian; special friend, Holly, and many nieces, nephews, and foster siblings.
Predeceased by his sister, Lorraine Sack, and special friend, Buddy.
Visitation will be held Monday after 6:30 p.m. at 37 Saqamow Rd., Paqtnkek Mi’kmaw Nation. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, Heatherton, with Rev. Charles Cameron presiding. Burial in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Summerside Road.
