DOWNEY, MILDRED ALBERTA - Mildred Alberta Downey of Lower Brighton went to the care of her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 29, 2014. She was born August 26, 1922 to the late Rose and Edward Johnston of Lake Edward, NB. Mildred came to the Hartland area when she was a young woman to work and there she met and married her husband Earl Downey. Mildred was a devoted wife to Earl for 69 years and a loving mother to her only child, her daughter, Irma. Mildred was a woman of great faith, a prayer warrior. She was a friend to all - a good neighbour. She was an excellent cook and no one ever left her home without an offer of a meal or a cup of tea. She was a great quilter and kept at this hobby well into her 80's. Mildred leaves behind her husband Earl, her daughter, Irma Cowper Thompson and son-in-law, Larry Thompson, of Quispamsis; grand daughters, Sherry (Steve) Cowper of Sussex, Susan (Vance) Crozier of Rothesy; three great grandchildren, Kaeli Crozier, Samuel Cowper, Rachel Cowper; two sisters, Marietta Connell, Alice Ruest and a brother, Delmer (Mary) Johnston all of the Perth-Andover area; several nieces and nephews. Mildred was pre-deceased by her son-in-law, Laurel Cowper; brothers, Alex, Ivan, Steve, Willard; sisters, Effie, Laura, Florence and Myrtle.
The funeral arrangements are in the care of the Britton Funeral Home, 2 High Street, Hartland with visiting hours on Friday, January 31st 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 1st at 2:00 p.m. from the Lorne Britton Memorial Chapel with Pastor Glen McVicar officiating. If so desired donations can be made to the Lower Brighton Wesleyan Church or a charity of the donors choice. Interment will be in the Lower Brighton Cemetery at a later date. www.brittonfh.ca
