Ruth passed away on February 10, 2014 at the age of 88 years, at Pineview Terrace Lodge in Prince Albert, SK, with her daughter by her side. She was predeceased by a baby sister Shirley; her parents George and Margery Williams; her daughter-in-law Barbara Thomson; her husband Derwent; her son Richard; and her sister Betty. Ruth is survived by her son Larry (Kathy) Thomson and family; her daughter-in-law Betty and family; her step daughter Dianna (Len Mantyka) and families; her step-son Reg (Gloria Ewen) and families; her son Chris (Marlene Reynolds); her sister Muriel Wiens and family; her sister Rosemary Vargo and families; her sister-in-law Sylvia Thomson and families. Ruth was involved in adult literacy and was a tutor for READ Saskatoon. She served two terms on the Laubach Literacy of Canada’s Board of Directors. She became the Saskatchewan Provincial Training Officer of Laubach Literacy of Canada. Ruth was also instrumental in the formation of the Saskatoon Literacy Coalition, and was elected to the first Board of Directors of the Saskatchewan Literacy Network in 1989. In 1991, she received a Saskatchewan Award of Merit for her work in the literacy field, and also received a Canadian Volunteer Award, sponsored by the Canadian Literacy Association. The care of Mom in the last few years has been under the wonderful care of the staff at Pineview Terrace Lodge. As per Mom’s wishes there will be no funeral. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of RIVER PARK MEMORIAL CHAPEL, Prince Albert, SK 306 764-2727, Colette Kadziolka, Funeral Director.
