Sears, Douglas Craig - age 68 years of Dartmouth, NS, died at 6:15 PM on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Dartmouth General Hospital surrounded by his family after succumbing to a long battle with lung cancer. He was born on September 24, 1945 in Truro, NS, to Gardner and Jennie Sears. He married Mary Jane (Lewis) Sears on May 18, 1968 and she survives.
Also surviving are his two daughters, Allison (Shawn) Ward, Crista (Stephen) Dunlavy, both of Dartmouth; one son Craig (Penny) Sears of Dartmouth; two grandsons Benjamin and Cameron; four nieces, Janet Meech, Patti Hanes, Jane Woodworth, and Tory Clark; two nephews, Brad Clark and Charles Lewis, and several very important cousins.

Doug’s father Gardner Sears, beloved mother Jennie (Douglas) Sears, and one daughter, Andrea Lynne Sears preceded him in death.

Doug was a long time resident of Dartmouth after returning home from Ontario where he had pursued his Bachelor’s Degree from Ryerson University completing it in 1969. Doug attended and was class President during his grade 12 year at Truro High School. He had a successful career in Sales and Marketing highlighted by proudly serving as President of Atlantic Canada Plus in the 1980’s.

Doug also gave a lot back to his community through his volunteering which ranged from former president of the Dartmouth YM/WCA, and various roles in the soccer community including manager, coach, and referee.

In celebration of Doug’s life the family will hold a gathering from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Woodlawn United Church - New Edition, 54 Woodlawn Rd, Dartmouth. The family will share words of remembrance at 2:30 PM.
