BURKE, HELEN - It is with deep sadness that we must announce the passing of a dear mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, Helen Burke, age 91, of Port Elgin. Helen passed peacefully at the Westford Nursing Home on Sunday, March 9, 2014. Born in Port Elgin, she was a daughter of the late Alton and Delilah (Larsen) Trenholm. Helen was a member of St. James Presbyterian Church and was formerly employed as a fish plant worker. She was a dedicated wife to her late husband Stewart, and loved her family dearly. She enjoyed dancing, skating, playing cards and bingo. She was affectionately known as "Honey" by all her nieces and nephews. Helen leaves behind son, Larry (Linda), Port Elgin, brothers, Robert (Linda), Florin "Dewey" (Lillian), both of Port Elgin; four grandchildren, Michael, Jason, Jamie and Aaron; several great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Florence and Doris, both of Port Elgin; former sisters-in-law Sheila, Murray Corner and Rita, Moncton; several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son Robert; brothers, Donald and Ralph.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jones Funeral Home. In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation. Funeral Service will take place in Port Elgin at the Jones Funeral Center, 3 West Main St, (506-538-2241) on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 2 pm, Wayne Jarvis DLM officiating.
