Mary Marguerite (Gouchie) Hay
November 26, 1914 – March 20, 2014
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Marguerite (Gouchie) Hay of Miramichi, N.B., wife of the late Hubert Hay and daughter of the late Stanley and Margaret (Avery) Gouchie, at York Care Centre, Fredericton, N.B., in her hundredth year.
Marguerite is survived by her sons, William (Linda), Prince George, B.C., and Richard (Janice), Moncton, N.B.; and daughter, Maureen (Leo) Murray, Fredericton, N.B. She is also survived by her niece, Lillian Johnston, Saint John, N.B., and nephew, John (Romaine) Gouchie, Halifax, N.S., whom she raised; sisters-in-law Lillian Gouchie, Miramichi, N.B., and Emily Hay, Moncton, N.B.; her six grandchildren, Shawn (Barb), Kyle (Joanne), Heather (Peter), Troy (Christine), Derek (Emily), and Jodie (Wes); and her seven great-granddaughters, Ella, Eliot, Rhyen, Tilly, Kelsey, Avery and Ella. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Harry, Robert and Ken; sisters, Marion and Annie; nephew James Gouchie and son-in-law Athol MacDonald.
Marguerite was a homemaker for many years and was happiest with her family around her. She loved living in her apartment in Miramichi, where she enjoyed socializing, playing cards and bingo with the other residents of the building; and scratching lotto tickets. She spent many hours knitting hats and slippers for the children in her life. She was an honorary member of the CWL and the Santa Maria. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
Marguerite’s family would like to extend sincere appreciation to the staff of York Care Centre for the wonderful care she received during her days there.
