DONALD LEE BENNETT
1930 - 2014
It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on Sunday, March 30, 2014. Devoted father of Donna (Brad Cargill), Vernon (Brenda) and Michael (Janelle); cherished grandfather of Lindsay Hubenig (Dustin) and Nicole Cargill, Matthew and Andrew Bennett, Ryan Bennett and proud grandfather to Sophie Hubenig. Predeceased by his parents, Wesley and Tena Bennett; his beloved wife of 52 years Suzanne Rachel (neé Tremblay); son Randy; sister Myrtle Howe (Joe); and numerous in-laws.
Born in Parkbeg, SK, Don grew up on the family homestead SW of Parkbeg. He moved to Regina in September 1949 to begin his career in plumbing and heating with Acme Plumbing & Heating and achieved a Master Plumber Certification. In 1961 Don joined Monarch Plumbing and Heating with Ivor Richardson and in 1979 became a partner embarking on a long and rewarding business collaboration. A career spanning over forty years, Don was well respected in the construction community and instrumental in the mechanical design and construction of numerous projects throughout Saskatchewan including several rural and urban hospitals, 27 schools, and many churches, hotels, office buildings and residential complexes.
Don exemplified the meaning of community engagement beginning as a teenager by reaching out to elderly neighbors and helping on thrashing teams. He became involved with numerous organizations including the Regina Ski Club, Knights of Columbus, Regina Lions Bands, Whitmore Park Community Baseball, and Trustee of the Joint Training Board, and his church community. Don was an avid reader and loved to learn about Saskatchewan history. He was a talented artist of wildlife reflecting his active participation in the great outdoors, enjoying hunting, fishing, and skiing. Foremost however, Don was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and cherished friend to many. Always generous with his love, he has enriched all our lives.
The Family extends our gratitude to the palliative care staff of Pasqua Hospital and Wascana Grace Hospice for their respect and compassion. A Celebration of his Life will be held at St. Martins Roman Catholic Church, 4720 Castle Road, Regina, SK on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with interment in Riverside Memorial Park. Please consider making a donation in Don’s memory to the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, 47 Squire Bakers Lane, Markham, ON, L3P 3G8, www.canadianpulmonaryfibrosis.ca To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com
