Kirk MacLeod

Lieu de naissance : St. John's, Terre-Neuve, Canada

Lieu de décès : Halifax, Nouvelle Ecosse, Canada
Date de décès : 6 avril 2014

(David) Kirk MacLeod (42) passed away on April 6, 2014, at home, surrounded by his wife and family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in St. John's NFLD, but raised in Liverpool NS, he was the son of Gordon and Shaune MacLeod. Kirk was passionate about his work as a security advisor for the United Nations, Martial Arts and CrossFit and travel. Kirk was larger than life, and lived life large. Canada World Youth took him to Indonesia in his early twenties; he was a Dive Master and open water dive guide in Costa Rica a few years later. He began his work in peacekeeping with the Pearson Peacekeeping Centre in the late 1990's, and later work with the United Nations took him to live in Kosovo, New York, Honduras and the Dominican Republic. He visited numerous other countries, many of them war zones, throughout his career. He was a second degree black belt in Aikijutsu, and was recently raised to black belt in Kenpo Karate. His love of martial arts impacted every aspect of his philosophy on life. In recent years, Kirk also became involved in CrossFit, first at CrossFit NYC, and later at CrossFit Kinetics in Halifax. It was a community he was proud to be a part of. CrossFit also helped Kirk train for the Big Swim last summer across the Northumberland Strait, which was instrumental in his recovery from recent cancer treatments. He enjoyed board games, comics, and books; he was a great reader and was always well informed and willing to offer an opinion or advice. Finally, and most importantly, Kirk was a great friend and family man. He touched lives and made friends all over the world, and deeply loved, and was loved by his family. He will be missed beyond measure. Kirk is survived by his loving wife Paige (Rockwell); daughter Chloe, sons Tristan and Gabriel, parents Gordie and Shaune, brother Scott, his in-laws, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his grandparents Betty and Art Killam, Margaret and Donald MacLeod, uncle, Kenneth MacLeod, and best friend Jason Chaffey. Visitation will be held at J.A. Snow Funeral Home, 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, (455-0531) on Saturday, April 12 from 3-6pm. Memorial Service will be held Monday, April 14 at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Brigadoon (a charity close to Kirk's heart), or the QEII Cancer Centre. Condolences and stories may be sent to Paige at paige.a.rockwell@gmail.com or www.jasnowfuneralhome.com.
