ROSS, Violet Annie (Vacheresse) 97, died April 19, 2014 in Wynn Park Villa, Truro, NS. Born in Stellarton, she was the wife of the late George W. Ross and daughter of the late John and Margaret (Rideout) Vacheresse. Violet was a lifelong resident of Pictou County until her move to Truro in 2011. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Canada, recognized in 2002 for faithful service, a life member of A.M.S.and President for over 20 years in Stellarton and Glencoe, and leader of C.G.I.T. for many years. She was a member of Foxbrook Women’s Institute and served on the Provincial Board. She was a member of Southern Cross Rebekah Lodge #3 for over 60 years, and then in recent years transferred to Silver Lights Lodge #79 and Crystal Fountain Lodge #11. Violet also served as Matron of the Maritime Oddfellows’ Home in Pictou, NS in the 1960’s with her husband, George W. Ross, who was Superintendent. Violet was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, George W. Ross in 2004, and by her parents and brothers, Emerson, George, John, and sisters, Margaret, Irene, Esther, Helen, Pansy and Ruth. She is survived by her daughter, Alice (Doug) Macintosh, Halifax; grand-children, Kathryn Macintosh (Scott Whetham), Edmonton, AB, Roderick (Cathy) Macintosh, Binghamton, NY, US, and George (Pam) Macintosh, Truro, NS; four great-grandchildren, Emily, Ann, Alec and Ross; and two great-great grandchildren, Landon and Douglas; and faithful nieces, Clare Wallis and Esther Hopkins. Cremation has taken place. By request, there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton on April 23 at 2:00pm with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. A reception will follow in First Presbyterian Church hall, Stellarton. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery, New Glasgow. Arrangements are entrusted to MacQuarrie Funeral Home, Stellarton. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Stellarton or a charity of the donor’s choice.
