In Charlie’s younger years, he had jobs that took him away from home; lumber mill in Big River, and farm work in Eston and Kindersley. Buying land from his Uncle Donald in 1951, they then moved to the farm in 1955. He broke land for many neighbours as well as himself and had a sawmill operation with another neighbour. After several years as a school trustee, Charlie became interested in municipal affairs putting in 28 years in all, beginning as a councillor for the RM of P.A. in 1970. Charlie held many offices in municipal and agricultural organizations: President of the SARM, Reeve of the RM of P.A. for 3 terms, member and later president of the Hudson Bay Route Assoc., among many others. Charlie also loved flying, earning his private pilot license in 1974, hunting and of course farming.
