Passed peacefully away at the Agnes Pratt Home, St. John's, NL on Thursday, May 1st Jessie Toope, age 84 years. Predeceased by husband Stuart, parents Lionel and Effie Hodder, brothers Vincent, Victor, Charles and Lindsay, sisters Pritzline and Princeline. Leaving to mourn four daughters Karen (Ray Christopher), Berdina (Ray Ford), Phyllis Toope and Dianne Toope; four sons Wayne (Teresa), Randy (Della), Keith (Karen) and Ernest (Diane); thirteen grandchildren Alyson Ford (Jeremy Bailin), Adam Ford (Robhen Burry), Darlene Toope (Roy Pittman), Stuart Toope (Danielle Murrin), Jeffrey Toope (Nakita), Kimberley Toope, Paul Hogarth, Kristina Toope (David Cooper), Kurtis Toope, Dylan Toope, Daniel Toope, Neal Christopher (Monique) and Darren Christopher; five great grandchildren Ashton Toope, Heath Bailin, Azalea Bailin, Zaylee Toope and Marco Christopher; and one brother Roy Hodder (Marion); nieces, nephews and a large circle of other relatives and special friends. Jessie never waivered when it came to giving service to her community... In 1982 Girl Guides of Canada bestowed the highest award in adult guiding "The Beaver" and honoured her with life membership. In 1967 the Government of Canada presented her with the Centennial Medal on the occasion of Canada's 100 year anniversary and in 1985 she was honoured as "Citizen of the Year" for the City of Mount Pearl. Jessie also held positions with The Canadian Red Cross, Arthritis Foundation, Ladies Council of NL and was a charter member of the Mount Pearl Lioness Club and was awarded the "Melvin Jones Fellowship Award". Special thanks to the nursing staff at the Agnes Pratt Home and Kenny's Pond Retirement Home for their care and concern for our mother. Visitation will take place at Barrett's Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl on Saturday, May 3rd from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm; on Sunday, May 4th from 1:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Cremation to follow. A Celebration of Jessie's life will take place at the Church of The Ascension, Smallwood Drive on Monday, May 5th at 2 pm. Interment to take place at a later date at Port Rexton, Trinity Bay. No flowers by request. Donations in Jessie's memory can be made to Girl Guides of Canada or the Lions Foundation of Canada.
