Brenda Louise Van Zoost

Van Zoost, Brenda Louise, aged 67, born on June 20, 1946, previously of Fort Lawrence and now of Amherst, Nova Scotia, passed away in the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre on May 3, 2014, after a long and hard fought battle with various cancers. Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Gunnar H. Olsen and Elsie (Black) Olsen. She graduated, with honours, from Mount Allison University, Sackville, NB, and from Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS, where she became an Assistant Professor. After nearly a decade in Clinical Psychology, Brenda and her family moved back to her Fort Lawrence homestead. This provided the opportune time to explore her other academic love and Brenda became a Chartered Accountant, working for several local businesses in her career. She is survived by her husband, David; a son, Steven; a son, Peter and his wife Edwina; a daughter, Shirley and her husband Dennis; a sister Carol and her husband, Ronald Byers; four grandchildren and eleven nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by an infant brother, Peter and an adult nephew, Konrad Byers.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Cumberland County YMCA, or the charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place and there will be a private family burial service. A Memorial Service, conducted by Ruth Gamble, Diaconal Minister, United Church of Canada, will be held at Trinity-St. Stephen's United Church, Amherst, NS on June 21st at 2pm. A reception in the church hall will immediately follow the Memorial Service. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell's Funeral Home, 98 Church Street, Amherst, N. S., B4H 3B4.
