Susie (Dueck) Doerksen of Glen Kerr, SK, passed away on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. She had just celebrated her 96th birthday. Susie was born on April 21, 1918, at Main Centre, SK, to Katherina & Jacob T. Dueck, the fourth of twelve children. She grew up in the Cruikshank district - 4 miles north and 2 miles west of Main Centre, SK. Susie was baptized on May 17, 1936. Susie and John met at a young age and they were married on May 3, 1938. They spent 4 days short of 76 years together. They were blessed with a family of four children, Mary, John, Jacob and Corny. She will be remembered for her open arms and candies that she had for all her grandkids when they came over for a visit: the pies she made over all the years: and making her grandchildren pick raspberries on hot summer days. Susie lived a good life and she will be missed. Susie was predeceased by her father, Jacob, in 1969; her mother, Katherina, in 1985; her only daughter, Mary, in 2005; a grandson, Peter, in 2006; a son-in-law, Diedrich Hamm, in 2007; a brother, David, at a young age; and by her other 9 siblings. She is survived by her husband, John; her sons, John (Shirley), Jacob (Lisa) and Corny (Cathy); 13 grandchildren and their spouses; Neta (late grandson Peters wife); 41 great-grandchildren and their spouses; her last sister, Rose Yanko of Regina, SK; numerous sisters-in-law; and by many nieces and nephews. Thank you to the Herbert Home Care ladies and the services you provide, this allowed Corny & Cathy to keep Susie at home for an additional 6 years. She only had to live at the Integrated Facility Long Term Care for 15 months. Also, thank you to the staff at the Integrated Facility who were so good to her, we couldn’t have asked for anything better.
The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 2:00 pm from the Chapel of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK with Rev. Abe Funk officiating. The Interment Service was held at the Gouldtown Cemetery, Gouldtown, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, sons - John Doerksen, Jacob Doerksen and Corny Doerksen, grandsons - John Doerksen, Cornelius Doerksen, David Doerksen and Andrew Doerksen.
