Peter Penner, age 85, passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at the Herbert & District Integrated Facility, Herbert, SK with family by his side. Peter was born on January 9, 1929, in Glen Kerr, SK to Jacob & Agnetha Penner. He married Marie Wiebe in August of 1949, and together they raised their family in the Glen Kerr district. Peter drove the school bus for 21 years. He also custom farmed, was a back-yard mechanic, a mail deliverer and built many picnic tables, wishing wells and sheds. He was a Godly man, a loyal, devoted and loving husband, a teacher and a provider. Peter is survived by his loving wife, Marie; their 10 children, Garry (Bev), Myrna (Reynold), Vera (Irwin), Valerie (Ken), Glenda (Ken), Melvin, Pearl (Ed), Sharon, Shauna (John), Dalsey (Joey); 22 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and by 5 great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; 2 sisters; 3 brothers; 3 sons-in-law; and by 1 granddaughter.
The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 2:00 pm from the Trailview Alliance Church, Swift Current, SK with Rev. Robert Winslow officiating. The pianist for the service was Sharon Hayes. “Nothing but the Blood of Jesus” and “The Old Rugged Cross” were sung by the congregation. Carrie Sadden read a poem, “For Our grandpa” and Glenda Schapansky read a “Letter to Dad”. The eulogy was shared by Myrna Baer – on behalf of the children and by Nolan Hayes – on behalf of the grandchildren. The ushers in the church were Devon Penner and Brad Klassen. Honorary pallbearers were, Dr. & Glennis Kassett, Dr. Ajay, Dr. Ashwita and the Herbert & District Integrated Health Facility Staff. The Interment Service preceded the Funeral Service and was held at the Herbert Cemetery, Herbert, SK with the following grandsons serving as pallbearers, Fred Lingelbach, Collin Gerbrandt, Sean Tyberg, Lonny Behm, Travis Penner and Tyler Sadden. In memory of Peter Penner, donations made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated by the family.
