Donald Jahnke

Date de décès : 2 mai 2014

Donald Bruce Jahnke passed away on May 2, 2014, age 69, doing what he loved to do; working cattle at his family’s ranch. Don was born April 9, 1945 in Swift Current. He lived a full and rewarding life with the love of his life, wife Dutchie (Linda). Don loved life on the ranch and was happiest working cattle with his boys, brothers and friends. He showed unconditional love for his sons, even if it was unspoken. He encouraged Mike’s sports interests and participated as a baseball coach and umpire. He spent many hours with Matt in the shop working on machinery. Don had a very special relationship with Matt’s children, his beloved granddaughters Hayli and Jordi, who loved coming to the ranch to see their Papa. Don had a huge heart and was known for his calming energy and unbelievable patience. There was nothing Don couldn’t do. He excelled at anything he set his mind to and he was an excellent teacher. He loved music, singing, dancing, poetry, story-telling, acting, baking, hunting, fishing, swimming, waterskiing, canoeing, photography, mechanics, construction, gardening, flying his plane in the earlier years… you name it, Don did it with ease. His rough exterior covered up a pretty big soft heart. He was an animal lover and taught the importance of staying calm, especially around horses. He was known as a protector, was very understanding, strong and was a great listener. He developed strong relationships with many around him – young or old; his fantastic sense of humor and willingness to talk drew people to him. Don was predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Mary; elder brother, Neil; and grandson Brendan. He is survived by his wife, Dutchie (née Linda Jean Bestrop); sons, Michael (Chelsea) and Matthew (Teri Stratulat); granddaughters Hayli and Jordi; brothers, Brian (Joanne) and Craig (Pat); sister, MaryAnne (Doug Montgomery); sister-in-law Marilyn; as well as many nieces and nephews. The Memorial Service was held on Friday, May 9, 2014, at 2:00 pm at the Morse Community Hall, Morse, SK with Rob Stephenson serving as the Master of Ceremonies. Musical selections were performed by Larry Jaster. A Eulogy was shared byBob Moss. The Ushers were Dennis Edwards, Boyd Sanden, Cody Sanden and Kelly Smith. The Internment will take place at a later date. In memory of Don Jahnke, donations made to MS Society or Salvation Army would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
