James (Jim) Bonia

Passed peacefully away, at the age of 92, in the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor on Thursday, May 8th. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Elizabeth and his two brothers and four sisters as well as by his first wife, E. Marie (nee Bowen) and his sons, John and David. Left to mourn are his wife, Monica (nee Maddox), his children Elizabeth Cole and Jim Bonia(girlfriend, Karen Naugler), his sister, Sr Helen Bonia, his grandchildren, Melanie Foster, Andrew, James, Emily and April Bonia, Marlene Sykes, Joanna and Christian Cole. He will also be missed by four great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a wide circle of relatives and friends. He was born in St. Mary's, St. Mary's Bay and always had a great love of the sea. As a young man, he worked at Fort Pepperrell as a heavy equipment operator. He later moved his family to central Newfoundland, where he worked his way up the ranks in the Department of Transportation, retiring in 1985 as Superintendent of Operations for central Newfoundland. The visitation took place Sunday, May 11, 2014 at 2-4 pm & 7-9 pm from Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 10 Bayley Street, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL. The funeral service took place Monday May 12, 2014 at 11 am from the Immaculate Conception Parish, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL with Father William Hearn officiating. Flowers were gratefully accepted or donations were made to a charity of one's choice. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, Grand Falls-Windsor, NL.
