It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Raymond White on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney.
Born in Point Edward, he was the son of the late Melvin and Ruby (Lukow) White. Ray was a member of the Cape Breton Naval Veterans Association and the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 126, Westmount. He was employed with the Canadian Armed Forces for 27 years and was involved in peacekeeping in Egypt and Israel. In his younger years, he played softball and his team, the Point Edward Juniors won two Maritime championships. The team was inducted into the sports hall of fame. Ray enjoyed fishing, hunting and working in his garden.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elva (Rudderham) White; his children, sons, Kenny White, Sydney, Peter McCuish (Cherri), Halifax; daughter, Carole (Stephen) Fleet, Lloydminster Alta.; grandchildren, Andrew McCuish (Kelsey), Kegan Fleet, Lloydminster, Alta. and Mathew McCuish, Halifax; brothers, Nick (Jane) White, Oakville, Ont., and Stanley White, Balls Creek; sisters, Anne (Mohan) Kalavase, Richmond Hill, Ont., Heather White, Lawrencetown, N.S.; three nieces, Kilmberley, Sharmie and Brandy; three aunts, Olvia Vincent, Halifax, Bernice (Dick) Jamieson, Burlington, Ont. and Sophie Piercy, Sydney.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brother-in-law, Brian Harris.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, at the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home 564 Alexandra St., Sydney.
