Sinclair MacDougall

Sinclair MacDougall

Lieu de décès : Sydney
Date de décès : 1er mai 2014

Sinclair was lost to his many family and friends on May 1, 2014. Known to many as Sinc or Sinky, Sinclair was well-known around the local area as someone who would always greet either a friend or stranger with a kind word or funny joke.
When Sinclair talked to you, you know he had only you in his interest at the moment. For many years he was a familiar figure on Charlotte Street where he worked in his younger days as a salesman at Yazer Brothers. In later years he worked in the motel industry at Keddy's motel and later as the night auditor for the Cape Bretoner motel. In the past number of years he worked during provincial elections for Elections Nova Scotia.
Upon retirement he donated his time and energy to numerous groups. He and friend Jacques Cote built many of the cross country trails at Ski Ben Eoin, and he was delighted to name a small bridge near the top after his beloved grandson, Samuel. Sinclair served on the board at Ski Ben Eoin for a number of years and often could be seen skiing the trails or snow shoeing up the mountain, something he was still doing this past January at both the Open Hearth Park and Rotary Park.
Sinc was actively involved with the North Sydney Historical Society, serving as treasurer and volunteering his time at various events, including the Cape Breton Farmers Exhibition. He was also involved in other historical organizations throughout the island. During the last few Christmases Sinclair could be seen on the Northside manning the kettle for the Salvation Army, sometimes with his grandson. He was a member of Toastmasters for many decades and served in administrative positions, including area governor. He was a member of Velo Cape Breton, often volunteering to help out with numerous cycling and social events and a life member of the Sydney Mines Seniors and Pensioners Club.
Sinclair's great loves were camping with his sons and grandson, whom he was able to bring to almost every campground in Cape Breton before he was 13, hiking and exploring the island, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, visiting his sons, painting inside and out for people just to help them out, cigars, a good glass of wine, great food, and generally just being around people. He was genuinely interested in what people were doing, and his often used line with folks he met was, "how's the family." If anyone needed Sinclair's help one just had to ask.
The son of the late Clarence and Sadie MacDougall, Sinclair is survived by his wife and constant companion Marilyn Ritza; sons, Paul (Faye), David (Jennifer), Gloria MacDougall (mother of Paul and David) and the DiCesare family of Newfoundland; grandson Samuel; brother Harry and family; sister Ruby Barron; sister-in-law Audrey MacDougall, niece and nephew Karen and Jamie MacDougall; special cousins Myrtle (Alan) Matheson, Wendy (Vince) Blanchard, numerous other cousins and relatives, and his little dachshund Mitzi.
Sinclair was predeceased by brother John (Burb) and his wife Vivian, brother Melvin, sister-in-law Rhea and brother-in-law Sylvester Barron.
A memorial service to celebrate Sinclair's life will be held at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, Alexandra Street, Sydney on May 31 with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Visitation from 1-2 and service at 2 p.m. followed directly by a reception at Chants. All are welcome.
Donations in memory of Sinclair can be made to Cape Breton Ground Search and Rescue and the CNIB.
