Colin Leigh "Buddy" Miller

Miller, Colin Leigh “Buddy” – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad, Colin Miller, age 80, on Friday May 23, 2014, in Cedarstone Enhanced Care, Truro. Born in Shubenacadie, he was a son of the late Norah (Miller) Pearce and Edward Starratt. Dad grew up in Shubenacadie and raised his own family there as well.

He enjoyed playing darts, cards, sports and coaching minor softball. Despite having Parkinson’s disease since age 52, he loved being physically active. He kept busy with yard work, regular walks, hunting, fishing, and was an excellent orthodox softball pitcher. Dad especially loved fiddle music. He would dance to it or pull out his harmonica to play along. Colin served overseas during the Korean War on board HMCS Iroquois. After leaving the Navy, he worked for the Dept. of Lands and Forests until he retired in 1991.

Colin is survived by his brothers, Robert Pearce, Shubenacadie East; Graham Pearce, Ontario; children, Cynthia (Vinnie) Toney, Tom, Marie, Colin, Debbie (Sandy MacIntosh), David; grandchildren, Amanda, Katie, Christina, Aimee, Christopher, Rebecca, Shannon; 17 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary (Campbell); brothers, Eddie, Jeff, a brother in infancy; sister, Emeline.

The family thanks the staff of Victoria Way, Cedarstone, for their wonderful care of Dad and our family, especially in the past week.

Visitation will be Monday, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m., and funeral will be Tuesday at 2 p.m., all in St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, Shubenacadie. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson’s Society Canada.

Arrangements are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperative, Upper Musquodoboit.
