Died peacefully, suddenly at home in Glace Bay, May 27, 2014, at the age 78.
Harry was born in Falmouth, N.S., son of Everett and Viola (Sabean) Woodman.
He was a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force stationed primarily in Quebec. He managed theaters across the province — Halifax, Truro and North Sydney. He retired as GM and CEO of Seaside Cable where in his earlier years he was instrumental in Seaside's cable coverage of the New Waterford Coal Bowl from the beginning and that coverage was made available to the home towns of the participating teams. Also, with the Christmas Fundraiser for the Food Bank which is their major fundraiser and on and on where he made lifelong friends. As CEO he travelled across Canada many times with various roles in the Canadian Cable Industry. He was very successful in this industry and hears frequently from some of the major players across the country who continued to hold him in high esteem.
He was past president of the North Sydney Kinsmen Club when they purchased the North Sydney Forum which provided many years of service to the surrounding communities. As a past member of the Seaview Golf Club, he remembered fondly being part of a team of curlers in North Sydney who played "the perfect game".
Harry was a lifelong Liberal who was very involved in the party and enjoyed everything political including daily doses of Evan Soloman. Harry truly enjoyed life, his family, his work, his friends and was well respected in both his private and public life.
Harry is survived by his loving wife, Mary, his sons, David (Janet), Truro, Mark (Dawn) Lr. Sackville, and Sean, Pickering, also Andrea Roach, Germany, Steven Raymond, British Columbia, and Casey Raymond, Sydney; his sisters, Carol (Fred) Sabean, Kentville, Janice Wolchok, Pickering, Ont.; grandchildren, Kirstin and Brogan Woodman, Truro, Kate, Abby and Garrett Roach, Germany.
Harry was predeceased by his parents, Peggy Woodman, mother of his three sons and daughter Lisa who died at birth.
Funeral 10 a.m., Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Chant's Funeral Home, Sydney, Sheldon Chant officiating. Committal following reception will take place with Fr. Norman McPhee officiating at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at 12:45 p.m.
