Lieu de décès : Glace Bay
Date de décès : 1er juin 2014
It is with saddened hearts and that we announce the peaceful passing of our dear father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle.
George passed away peacefully Sunday morning, June 1, 2014, at the New Waterford Heights nursing home with his family by his side.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late George Edward and Mary Ann (Parsons) Hyde and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
George worked for 25 years at Steel City Sales in Sydney as a painter in the auto body department. George loved bowling and was a member of numerous leagues in the Glace Bay and Sydney area. He also enjoyed playing cards, especially poker and visits to the casino. When at home he would watch old movies, mainly westerns, he also looked forward to watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy and he usually was the first to solve the question or phrase. He was a very kind and caring man and was his wife’s main caregiver for 10 years. He was a very giving person who would always put the needs of others before those of his own.
George will be sadly missed by his loving children, daughter Janet MacDonald, Glace Bay; sons David (Annalee), Reginald (Rhona), both of Kitchener, Ont.; grandchildren Elena and Lisa O’Keefe (who shared a very special bond with their grandfather, always referring to him as Daddy), Ryan Nagy, Brianne Hyde, Crystal Hyde, Robert Hyde, Tiffany MacDonald; great-grandchild Ryder Nagy; numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his loving wife Doris Marie (Peterson) Hyde in 2010, brothers Robert and George Ernest in infancy, sisters Nelly and Susan (Sue) Scott.
Visitation for George will be held Wednesday, June 4, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel 2 p.m. Thursday, June 4, with Rev. Myrna MacMullin officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens, Sydney.
