Jim Neufeld

Jim Neufeld

Date de décès : 13 juin 2014

Jim Neufeld, age 75, of Swift Current (formerly of Melville), passed away on Friday, June 13, 2014, at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, with his family by his side. Jim was the 15th of 16 children born to Abraham & Sarah Neufeld on December 11, 1938, at the Swift Current Hospital the first of his family to be born in a hospital. He grew up on the family farm at Rosenort. It was here that he acquired and honed a mischievous sense of humour a skill he learned from his mother! His family fondly remembers this sense of humour, sparkle in his eyes and subtle smirk. He often spoke of fond memories of his parents, siblings, neighbors and many visiting relatives. Jim attended the Iris School for 9 years, the Swift Current Bible Institute for 3 years and then returned home to complete his high school at Wymark. He began a 32 year career with OK Economy in Swift Current in the mid 1960¹s. On November 11, 1966, Jim married the love of his life, Christina Rempel, at the Wymark Evangelical Mennonite Church. This marriage resulted in a family of four children Corvyn, Avery, Cosette and Daralee. In 1971, Jim¹s career took him to Melville where he and Chris raised their family. It was during this time that Jim was able to realize his dream of living in the country when we moved to the farm in the spring of 1976. He enjoyed everything about living on the farm. He raised horses, cattle, chickens and just about every other type of animal that could live on a farm. It was an amazing place of great memories, fun and lots of hard work. Jim¹s faith was very strong and he served his Lord for many years at the Melville Baptist Church. He was a fixture at the organ or piano. He served as a deacon and in many leadership positions in the church. Jim¹s career was important to him. He was respected by his many staff and customers over the years. As children, we all spent countless hours at the ³store². It was a magical playground. In the mid 1980¹s, a decision was made to build a new store in Melville and Jim led the transition from the old store to the new. In 1996, he retired from the OK Economy. In 1998, Jim & Chris decided to sell the farm and move ³back home² to Swift Current. They enjoyed reconnecting with many old friends. Jim enjoyed finding treasures at Neufeld¹s Auctions and refinishing furniture and different wood work projects. In 2007, Jim & Chris relocated to Pioneer Estates. Jim enjoyed the companionship and fellowship of the condo community. The East Side Church of God was a special place for Jim. He satisfied his life-long love of music by serving on the Worship Team while his health permitted. He treasured the friendships and fellowship of his many church family members. He spoke with passion of the ministry served by The Centre. Jim was predeceased by his parents, Abraham and Sarah; sisters, Mary (Abe) Knelsen, Gertie (Jake Martins and Dave Dueck), Helena and Elizabeth (in infancy); brothers, Abe, Dave and Jacob, Peter, John and David (in infancy). He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, Chris; sons, Corvyn (Stacy) and Avery (Bev); daughters, Cosette and Daralee (Scott); grandchildren, Grayson, Madison, Cody, Chase, Amy, Jessica, Wyatt, Jane, Joshua, Sage, David, Lance and Joel; sisters, Tina, Elsie, Lena and Sally (Peter); brother, Herman (Helen); in-laws, Margaret (Phil), Anne, Susan, Helen, Sarah and Marie; and many nieces and nephewsŠall celebrate his memory.
