Annie (Anne) Mildred Sample, 90 of Halifax and formerly of Stellarton, passed away peacefully at Northwood Manor, Halifax, on June 16, 2014.
Annie was born in Sydney to Abraham and Adelaide Hatcher.
She moved to Stellarton in 1945 but her love of Cape Breton stayed strong.
Mom led an active life and was involved in many activities in church and community. She was a Sunday School teacher, leader of CGIT, active in the Balmoral Girls Pipe Band Mother’s Club and CN Bowling League. She was a member of the Sharon St. John United Church, UCW and quilting club.
Mom had a passion for sewing, knitting, quilting and cross-stitch. Many significant achievements in the lives of her family were celebrated with the gift of a quilt. In later years, Mom was an active participant in the Stellarton Seniors’ Club and dancing with the Stellarites. For many years she worked at White’s Book Store and the yard goods department at Zellers in New Glasgow.
Mom and Dad loved to travel and enjoyed many trips across North America and Europe attending Dad’s First Special Service Force Association Reunions. In 2006 Mom moved to Dartmouth and 2012 to Halifax.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She is survived by three daughters: Heather Hudson, Saint John, NB; Beverly Sample, Fort McMurray, AB and Nancy Sinclair, Halifax, NS; six grandchildren: Rev. Kelly Hudson-Lewis (John), Hampton, NB; Jennifer Carda (John), Omaha, Nebraska; Amber Leigh VanKuren (Dan), Apopka, Florida; Robbie Ollerton (Chrissy), Fort McMurray, AB; Bradley Sinclair and Tyler Sinclair, Halifax, NS; 11 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews.
Mom was predeceased by her husband and our Dad, Clarence Sample in 1997, three sisters and five brothers.
Visitation will be at the H.C. MacQuarrie Funeral Chapel, 18 Acadia Ave., Stellarton on Saturday, June 28 from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 29 at 2 p.m. from the Sharon St. John United Church with Rev. Charles McPherson officiating. A reception will follow the service in the church hall. Burial will be in the Brookside Cemetery.
The family requests donations in memory of Annie may be made to the Children’s Wish Foundation.
