Doris Andres

Date de décès : 22 juin 2014

Doris Andres, age 90, peacefully passed away after a lengthy illness on Sunday, June 22, 2014, at the Herbert Integrated Health Facility with her family and loved ones by her side. The loved ones gone before Doris were her parents, Elizabeth & Abraham Toews; her only sister, Susan & Hank Petkau; parents-in-law, Peter & Elizabeth Andres; brothers and sisters-in-law, Isaac & Elizabeth Doerkson, Pete & Mary Andres, Isaac Andres, Jake & Mary Andres, Anne Andres, Art Jahnke, Henry & Irma Andres and Gertie Andres. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by, her husband, Bernie, of nearly 63 years; her only son, Don & Lori - her granddaughter, Denise & Denis, great-grandson, David (St. Albert, AB): her grandson, Keith & Lindsey, great-grandchildren, Carter and Sara (farm homestead-Herbert, SK); sisters-in-law, Mary Andres, Kathrine Jahnke; brother-in-law, Abe Andres; extended family, Ken & Kathy Siemens (who were like her own family), Vic & Linda Giesbrecht (whom she loved and enjoyed their visits), Laura & Walter Pouteaux (she was her dearest friend); cousins and many friends from all over. Doris was born on March 19, 1924, to Elizabeth & Abe Toews on the Morse farm. She was the younger of 2 girls and enjoyed living on the farm. It was hard to move around on the dirt roads, so she took part in a Sunday School correspondence course through the mail. She asked her Lord and Saviour into her life at an early age and lived faithfully serving Him till her dying days. The family struggled with finances like so many families did in those early days, so bought toys were not there, but that didn’t stop her from enjoying her childhood. The Eaton’s catalogue and cut out paper dolls were her favorite toys….her dolls always had the latest fashions to wear. She always enjoyed school, and her favorite subject was art. As a young teen she entered a drawing contest and won a partial scholarship to attend art school, but funds were tight and so she could not attend. In the late 1940’s, she attended Business College in Moose Jaw and was hired in Herbert as a stenographer for the Wiebe & McClelland Agency, where she worked for a number of years. She met her life partner, in the late 1940’s, both were singing in the church choir. On July 1, 1951, Doris married Bernie and they moved to the farm south east of Rush Lake, where she enjoyed farm life and worked beside Bernie for 52 years. In 1956, they were blessed with an only child, Don. Doris enjoyed serving on different committees in church and especially enjoyed working on the MCC committee. She loved travelling and took numerous trips together with her brothers and sister-in-law. In 1978, Don got married and started farming together with his parents. Doris finally got her daughter, whom she loved to go shopping with. When the grandchildren came, she loved spending time reading stories to them. She was even seen sitting on the floor leaning against the wall laughing and reading with the grandkids. In 2007, they moved into Herbert so that their grandson, Keith & Lindsey could move on to the farm and continue the tradition of farming together with Don & Lori. As she now had more time, she did handwork and loved to read, but she especially was gifted in her writing abilities. On many occasions she was asked to have a reading and she would pray about it and spend days in getting her thought down on paper. The last 5 years she enjoyed being a great-grandma or as they all called her, “Nana”. Doris’ health started to fail in 2012, but she was always cheerful and remained faithful to her Lord. On May 6, 2014, she was hospitalized and never came back to her earthly home. She now has a new golden room in her Heavenly home. The family would like to extend a sincere thank-you to Doctor Kassette and the staff for their wonderful care for Doris and their compassion expressed to the family.
