Margaret Dohaney

DOHANEY, Sr. MARGARET ANN – The death of Sister Margaret Ann Dohaney (Sister Elizabeth Marie) of Saint John, New Brunswick, occurred on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at Ruth Ross Residence. Born in Chipman, New Brunswick, she was a daughter of the late William and Susanne Mary (Monahan) Dohaney. She taught school for one year in the province of New Brunswick before entering the Sisters of Charity of the Immaculate Conception on September 8, 1943. Sister Dohaney earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree from UNB in 1964 and a Bachelor of Education Degree from UNB in 1966. Sister Dohaney taught at St. Joseph’s School in Farrelton, Quebec from 1945 – 1946, from 1946 – 1951 and 1959-1960 she taught grades at Our Lady of Loretto School in Venosta, Quebec. Sister returned to Saint John, New Brunswick in 1951 and taught at St. Patrick’s Orphanage in Silver Falls, New Brunswick, until 1957. She continued her teaching ministry at Holy Trinity School from 1957 – 1959. Sister Dohaney was Principal of St. Pius X School from 1960 – 1973. Sister studied at St. Paul University in Ottawa and obtained a Baccalaureate Degree in Canon Law in 1987. She ministered in the Saint John Marriage Tribunal in Saint John from 1977-1986 and in the Marriage Tribunal in Nova Scotia until 1989. She continued as the bursar at St. Vincent's Convent until moving to Ruth Ross Residence, where she currently resided. Sister is survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her brothers: George E. Dohaney, James W. Dohaney and John H. Dohaney and one sister Agnes C. Dohaney.
Resting at Ruth Ross Residence on Sunday, July 13, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Prayer Vigil will be held on Sunday at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 14, 2014 in Carmel Chapel, Ruth Ross Residence at 10:00 am. Interment will take place in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
