Mildred Janet Phillips passed away July 7, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Mildred was born July 24, 1934, to James and Janet (Andrews) Phillips in Coxheath where she joined her sister Dorothy (Phillips) Cann and brother James Phillips.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In 1980 Mildred was predeceased by her nephew, Robert Cann.
Mildred will be remembered by nephews, David Cann, Coxheath, Brian (Betty Lou Phillipo) Cann, Dartmouth, great nephew, Brad (Belinda Gill), and great-great nephews, Cameron and Bryson, Whitby, Ont., great niece, Carla Cann (Ian Brownrig), great-great nephew, Jacob Brownrig, Darmouth, niece, Arilyn (Ken) Tweddle, great-great nephew, Carter, Beaver Bank, brother-in-law, George Cann, Coxheath, and her good friend, Pauline Monahan, Ontario.
During Mildred’s early years, she worked in her father’s general store in Coxheath. After a few years, she moved on to Breton Bay where she was a personal care worker. Travelling and exploring were her favourite activities.
Mildred and her dear cousin, Betty Rogers (Alberta) drove the Alaskan Highway and also enjoyed polar bear watching in Churchill (Manitoba). These were a few of her favourite adventures.
If Mildred were here today and was asked about her life, she would say, “I did it my way."Mildred’s last wishes were for cremation and no memorial service. Her ashes will be interred in St. Mark’s Cemetery, Coxheath, at a later date.
