Kenneth James Power, age 59 of Wilmot, Annapolis County, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2014 in Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville.
Born in New Waterford, N.S., he was a son of the late William and Honora (Stapleton) Power. Ken started his military career in Oct. 1972, and over the course of his service he spent over 31 years with Search and Rescue. He served in Gander, Nfld., Summerside, P.E.I., Edmonton, Alta., Comox, B.C., and Greenwood, N.S. During his SAR career he accumulated over 8200 flying hours, and was rewarded both the Star of Courage and the Medal of Bravery before retiring in 2008. Ken loved the outdoors and in his spare time was an avid camper, fisherman and horseshoe player.
He is survived by his wife, the former Susan Higney, Kingston; daughter, Allison Power, Kentville; son, Kenneth 'Ian' Power, Wilmot; brothers and sisters, Colleen (Chuck) Hawkins, Kingman, Arizona; Billy Power, New Waterford, N.S.; Helen (Bill) Newell, Sydney River, N.S.; Wayne (Peggy) Power, Grand Lake Road, N.S.; Carole Walker, Kitchener, Ont.; Edward (Sharon) Power, New Waterford, N.S.; Raymond (Audrey) Stapleton, Ingonish Centre, N.S.; Brian (Yvette) Power, New Waterford, N.S. and Ann (Brian) Williams, New Waterford, N.S.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Cremation has taken place. At Kenneth’s request, there will be no visitation or memorial service.
