It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Basil Brown on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Angus and Charlotte (Hartling) Brown.
He was a plumber and pipefitter by trade. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Basil is survived by his wife, Nina (Pitts); his sons, Roy (Darlene) Brown, Sydney, Todd (Leah) Brown, Saskatchewan; five wonderful grandchildren, Victoria, Robert, Hunter, Stephen and Ashley Murphy; his sister, Ethel Andrews; brother, Bernard Brown, both of Sydney, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Elsie Cahill; sister-in-law, Kay Brown; brother-in-law, Lloyd Andrews.
The family would like to send a special thank you to Dr. Paul MacDonald, Sandra Toner, NP, and the heart function team, Dr. John Ritter, nurses and staff of palliative care, CCU department and the VON for their care, compassion and support given to Basil at his time of need.
Cremation has taken place. As per Basil’s request there will be no visitation. A memorial mass will be held at a later date.
Donations in Basil’s memory made be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Cape Breton Palliative Care.
