AMIRAULT, James Leazin, - age 102, of Dayton, Yarmouth Co., passed away wearing his hat on August 8, 2014 at the Yarmouth Regional Hospital. Born October 10, 1911 he was a son to the late Leazin and Bridget (Leblanc) Amirault. James was devoted member of the St. Ambrose Parish and member of the Yarmouth Knights of Columbus 2181 where he was past grand knight, and charter member of the fourth degree Knights of Columbus. He also served as a volunteer at the Yarmouth Fire Department, and was a former Captain of the Salvage Corps. His volunteer work also consisted of; the Yarmouth Food Bank, Meals on Wheels and member of the Yarmouth Rotary Club. He was known as a businessman who owned Yarmouth South Grocery Stores for 49 years. In his spare time he enjoyed golf, bowling, hunting, fishing, Red Sox baseball, and hockey. James is survived by daughter, Elaine (Kenneth) Ryan; son, Jerry (Rhonda) Amirault; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. Besides his parents he was predeceased by his loving wife , Celeste H. (Muise) Amirault; brothers, Theodore and Edgar; sisters, Clara and Jenny; daughters in infancy, Diane and Marlene; and great grandchild, Megan Atkinson. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home and Crematorium, Yarmouth. Visitation was held Sunday, August 10, 2014 from 7-9 p.m. in Sweeny’s Funeral Home Chapel with prayers at 8 p.m . A funeral service was held Monday, August 11, 2014 at 11 a.m. at St. Ambrose Cathedral, Father Gerald David officiated. Interment followed in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. Family flowers only please.
